WELCOME LETTER
“ARCHITECTURE IS DESIGNING PEOPLE’S LIFE”
Welcome! I’m Andrew Lewis, a Spanish architecture student born in Switzerland and of British descent. In addition to this international mixture I was also lucky enough to be raised near Barcelona, not only a beautiful Mediterranean city with endless opportunities but an architectural delight for the senses.
As a child I started showing an interest in design and art although in school I took the scientific and engineering path to improve my numeracy and analytic capacity. At the age of thirteen I knew I wanted to become an architect, nothing has changed since then. I can’t tell why, it just happened. Maybe it was a combination of two different worlds: the scientific and artistic, the objective and subjective, the empirical and the conjectural.
What fascinates me is not only the fact of what architecture is but also what it represents. Architecture is the representation of human needs. It is the solution to common demands that have to be accomplished and a parallel evolution with mankind. Architecture is much more than designing, it is designing people’s lives in the spaces they inhabit. This responsibility towards the world and its culture is what makes me appreciate the greatness of architecture.
That’s the reason why I want to be part of this solution and change. I want to contribute to this changing society and take the responsibility to design people’s lives. After all, what we build is what ends up building us.
Andrew Lewis.
