“Mirador del vino” emerged from the need to create and solve a public space in the traditional wine land Pinell de Brai, Catalunya. The environmental factors and climate conditions create a great atmosphere to enrich the wine culture along the Terra Alta, named a cultural heritage by the UNESCO.
The aim of the project was to propose an oenology complex that allowed to explore the wine culture from the land through experimentation. A complex not only aimed to research but also to attract visitants and foreigners to live new experience allowing them to discover the landscape from la Terra Alta and its wine.
The complex generated a connexion between the small town and the landscape connecting different lookouts towards the vineyards. This covered lookout acts as a plaza that welcomes you to the building and protects you from the harsh summer sun and strong winter winds. The urban reinterpretation was maintained by the use of different modules superposed that distributed the project. The central part of the building was used as a service and circulation core that behave as a structural element.
The program had to main objectives. The first one was an oenology school centre with classrooms and labs to investigate the wine culture. Also a temporary exhibition space with a bar and wine tasting facility. The second part was to provide rooms to the students and visitors with different unipersonal cells connected with common spaces for work and leisure.
This building is the new façade of the town which brings a breeze of modernity without interfering the old vulture to keep the wine tradition
